Swift Night Out at The Durham
September 27, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Durham hosts a free, family-friendly Swift Night Out event so patrons can have the chance to see the acrobatic display of swifts swarming into nearby chimneys. Hear from experts of local Audubon societies, drinks and snacks for purchase and the opportunity to hopefully see the swifts as they swirl through the sky at dusk.
Chimney swifts are known for roosting in chimneys; their long claws allowing them to cling to vertical surfaces. These endangered birds are often seen in the Triangle area in September through November during their migration from the eastern United States to South America. The Roof at The Durham will offer a front-row view to guests for the swarms of swifts as they dive and roost in downtown Durham chimneys. The New Hope Audubon will be on hand with telescopes, binoculars and information about how to protect these endangered birds and their habitats. The event is free and open to the public.
